Grab any up-to-date Audi brochure, and they now categorically state that LongLife is NOT suitable for, amongst many other reasons, high performance motors, - and so are on the standard time/distance servicing!
So you'd definitely agree that time/distance is recommended?
Well . . . . without knowing exactly what motor you drive (

I could guess it is a Golf GTI, however, other peeps on these boards seem to be running TDIs, Polos etc - as well as GTIs !!!

- hint: update your signature, so we have to guess no longer

) -
and, how you drive, I can't make a definate recommendation!
If it is a GTI, and you drive it as it was meant to be - then yes - abso-fookin-lutely - get off LongLife and go onto time/distance, which just to remind everyone is up to 12 months or up to 10,000 miles, whichever occurs
soonest. (Whereas LongLife is upto 24 months or up to 20,000 miles).
Mine is currently set to long life - would there be any issues getting it changed to time/distance say when I get the oil done at 5000 miles?
In a word - yes! It is highly unlikely the stealer will be able to work out how to re-code the SID correctly (they have to manually input the correct number of days, and miles, and because they are only used to inserting either 365 or 720 days, they may run out of fingers and toes to add up on

) - so whoever does an oil change at 5k miles (do it yourself - 19mm hex for the sump plug, 36mm hex for the oil filter!), tell them not to re-program the SID. Then, when 12months or 10k miles aproaches, book it in to VW/Seat/Skoda/Audi garage for the 10k service, and tell them to re-program the next service for time/distance.
Or should I have had this done when I first got it?
Yes, but it is too late now - stable doors and horses running wild come to mind!
This seems to be the one crucial area which many VW dealers seem to lag behind their Audi dealer collegues on. Ever since VAG introduced the LongLife / variable servicing option, Audi dealers were always advising high performance models not to use LongLife. Indeed, the last model S3 (8L), and the TT 225 were never allowed to go on LongLife. The new Audi brochures have quite clear advice on how to choose which regime to use, but the info from VW is severly lacking!
BTW, great Avatar
