this has more than likely been covered a few times but couldnt find much...turboing the 2.0 8v, i've heard rumours that the turbo diesel maifold is a direct fit so if thats the case cant you just get all the relavant pipework etc and run a 5th injector?

Alright,

there was a post about this - supercharging a Mk3.

Basically, its not worth it for the 8V engine. Best thing to do is induction, exhaust, chip is you want more horse power.

Turbo would cost shed loads and you would have to change the bottom end etc. Would be cheaper to put in turbo engine.

I've got to agree. Although there has been some talk about dropping a MK4 spooler engine in a MK3.

If you want to do it as an experiment or a hobby - go for it! However, its not the most cost effective way of making a golf go fast!

well i've got ross racing pistons, H section con rods, ARP bolts, 4 paddle clutch, alot of nitrous and a host of other stuff so i thought it would be a good base to put a turbo on

Cant say for certain if the gtd manifold is a direct fit.. but the diesel turbocharger unit itself certainly wouldn't be the best option.. you can probably pick and choose parts to 'frankenstein' together. Also.. you may well have uprated rods and pistons, but if they arent specifically designed to run at low compression for forced induction engines I would keep the boost you run to a minimum.. say 6 - 8 psi .. so you may be hitting at most 180 - 200 bhp-ish ... work out how much it will all cost you (remember intercoolers arent cheap either!) then compare it to say, a VR6, G60 or 1.8T 20v conversion.. which will be far more reliable and produce the same/more power.

providing the manifold is a direct fit then i can get a turbo and intercooler for next for nothing, i've got a spare 2.0 8v head with inlet and injectors which i'll use. i'm only wanting a maximum of 8psi because that way i assume i wouldnt have to upgrade the fueling to much.

im not too up on the old 5th injector method (i'm a firm believer in map sensors ) but if it worked for turbotechnics i'm sure it's not overly complicated.

may aswell give it a whirl. cant imagine adding a 5th injector to be to hard, splice into the existing injector wiring and add a microswitch to come on at full throttle?
