BBR are/were Brodie Brittan Racing, old skool turbo tuning company from back in the eighties (I'm old enough to remember). They bought out GTI Engineering after they got into trouble back in the nineties as above when the insurance on GTIs went mental. I think Morego is tied in with them both now(?)

The RE1900 was a 142 bhp engine conversion and was the thing to have for those that could afford it back in the GTI heyday. Great hand built engines but depending on what sort of state it's in now you'd have to find someone who really knew what they were doing to re-build it back to its full glory.

Just another note on the subject, GTI engineering was owned by that guy hat was killed in that plane crash some months ago, his name escapes me at the moment, but was an influential figure in the motorsport world
As regards the engine that youve found, personally I wouldnt touch it, race prepped engines have a short life, even ones built for road going cars, even though  It may have some neat tricks up its sleeve, It would almost cetanly be well past its sell by date.. things have moved on a lot since the early 90s..
Just found what I was looking for.. read on, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GTi_Engineering

if it really was prepared by gti engineering there will be a littel  plate that says so. there arn't any engine life issues ether  if anything it should outlast a stock motor  as built with higherr quality parts at better balanced.

gti engineering  conversions still kept vw warranty as well as they were actualy reconised by vw and had a dealership number
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

David Lloyd died on 30th March 2008 after a private jet on which he was travelling crashed into a house in Farnborough, shortly after take-off from Biggin Hill Airport. It is reported that just before the crash the plane suffered severe engine problems. All five occupants were killed upon impact, which also included former British Touring Car Championship driver David Leslie. Both were en route to the Nogaro Circuit in France to prepare Apex Motorsport's Jaguar for the upcoming FIA GT3 season

didn't realise david leslie was in the plane with him

Did David Leslie drive the Primera in British Touring Car Championship back in the day?

David Leslie drove the Primera amongst others in the BTCC. Richard Lloyd founded GTI Engineering after successfully racing one of the first LHD Golf GTI in the uK in the 1970's  :nerd:
