engine swap

hi there can any1 give me a bit ov advise?
i hav a mk2 gti 8valve but very soon a think its gna die so thinkn abwt getn a new engine. was thnkn ov getn a 16v 1.8 or 2.0 for it cuz a wud prefer a bit more oommfff i u kin wot i mean. is it jus a simple swap or is ther any tricky business involved? hope sum1 can help thanks.  :cool:

to convert to a 16v isn't too hard as long as you have the right age 8v and pick the right donor engine. basiclly they had two different 8v's. digifant and k-jet. k-jet 8v to k-jet 16v is the easiest swap but that depends on the type of engine you currently have.
do a search in the mk2 section as there is looooads of info about all manner of engine swaps. ultimately it all boils down to your competance as a mechanic (or whoever would do the swap), how much money you want to spend and what you ultimately want to achieve.
there is an old saying, "don't build a car you can buy".... ie there are loads of 16v mk2's out there so unless you've spent a load of time and money on the rest of the car it might be better for you to just sell the 8v and buy a 16v. remember its not just a case of taking one engine out and putting the other in, think of brakes and other worthwhile upgrades.
oh yeah txt spk is stupid wen u av a whle keybrd... :P

1st off dnt giv me the whole txt sh!te cuz a ca help it . am new 2 this sh!t ok. av got a G reg golf 8V n its startn to loose its whole get up n go if u know wt i mean! was thinkn ov jus xchangin it 4 a 16valve  but av nt found a decent one yet since my 5door is pretty much ready for an engine n nothin else since it has the fulll koni ajustible 60mm :smiley: am jus lookin for more power cz this 8v is jus not givin enuf! is the 1.8  16v jus a straight swap or wot???? cheers xx
