Coolant thermostat

can anyone confirm if the coolant thermostat is under the water pump is it a right pig to get at

I'm told that yes that is where it is and Yes it IS a pig.

Why are you considering changing it? I ask because my temp water temp gauge is always very low and I thought that may help?

On the 2.0 it is next door to the water pump in a housing.......

1 remove the pas belt for access
2 remove the pas pump mount (don't undo any haoses)
3 remove hose from coolant pump housing
4 remove 2 bolts from thermostat housing and remove housing
5 take stat out (make sure you use a new rubber ring gasket)

fitting is a reversal off removing..oh and also empty the coolant before anything alse as there's a fair bit of water there

and robster does your car get warm (i.e heater) as this could be the temp sensor at fault

i want to change it cause it takes a good 15 mins to warm up and i think it get stuck open and closed on diffrent occasions so its still a real pig of a job to do then

No, the gauge shows in the coldest 3 bars at all times unless i'm stationary for a period of time then it goes to half way. I should have thought it should sit just below half way all the time?

robster i had a similar problem with my old golf...and that turned out to be the temp sensor.....

If she is blowing hot air from your heater when it show's cold I would try that first

Ok mate thanks. The MFA shows an appropriate oil temp while the coolant gauge is set at cold so i'll give it a look. Looks like ECP will be getting lots of my money this month!
