Does anyone who owns an R32, or a GTI with colour coded side sills have any probs with peeling paint?

The paint on mine is peeling quicker than easter egg foil at a McDs kids party

Would like some feedback from others before I take it up with the dealer.

Rgds

Did the dealer paint them? I'm getting my lower rear bumper painted by VW.

Yeah, the dealer painted them, along with the front splitter and rear valence when they PDI'd it - it was part of the deal I haggled out of them.

They did try and give me some tosh about paint peeling on plastic bits, but I respectfully advised them that would happen, only if they didn't use the proper "flexible" primer, which is used on all plastic parts, OEM or aftermarket.

Looking carefully at them, there is no primer at all, loads of overspray in the arches (cleared up on a previous whinge . . . I mean warranty visit), loads of overspray all over the undertray, handbrake cables etc, etc.

Not a happy bunny ATM

Hmmm. Maybe I'd be better to just leave it. Or i could source a rear bumper part of ebay and take it to a bodyshop before fitting it myself. That way no monkeys get to play with the car.

Will discuss with dealer....

if they didnt use primer, which I know they should have, thats bad news, you need a refund!

A refund is out of the question, the car was first registered 1st Sep last year, but the service department at the dealer has been useless.

I'll send them a RecDel letter demanding they drop off an ident courtesy car, flat bed mine to the dealer, do the job properly, and bring it back to me.

The thing that really annoys me, I went round a load of VW dealers, with an identical wish list, including the colour coding, and all of them said no probs.  The Wife's last Astra had its side sills colour coded, and we never had probs on that, over 7 years we had it!

Grrrrrr . . .

My 'R' is fine and i echo the use of plastic primer. My last car had everything colour coded and they used plastic primer and it was fine

dont hold your breath on a "ident" replacement car whilst yours is sorted, legally they dont have too,Cus i posed the same question. As long as they supply a vehical for the duration of repairs, thats about as good as it gets, depending on what their bodyshop has for lender cars, in my case i had the pleasure of a new VW polo!!! ENJOY!,

The annoying thing was that I actually warned them about the plastic primer, and they hmmed and arhhed.  In the end, I told them if painting plastic was so difficult, then every Golf, Polo, Toerag, etc would have paint peeling of the front and rear bumpers, and they couldn't follow up that one.

Re the ident car, mine has already been back to them 4 times, at 240miles each visit, each time, they keep saying they fix the problems, each time I get it back, still the bl00dy same!  Heads will roll - OK, letters will wing their way to VW UK and VW AG if they give me any more grief!

I wonder if i'm better off taking the car to a reputable body shop rather than let VW do it.

At least if I pay VW to do it there isn't quite the incentive to do it as cheaply as possible, as they is when they get nothing out of it.
