Yes, yes - I thought exactly the same the day we picked it up - sadly the deed had already been done.  Just like the lower splitter lip on the bottom of the front bumper should have been left black - the darn thing keeps getting scraped on ferry ramps

I left mine black, and everybody ask's, "why didn't you colour code that at the same time"

You can't win 'em all

Hey Sean - have been to the dealer and had a talk with my salesman. He has done the ground work for me, he was advised not to go with their own VW bodyshop, nor their usual one, but another slightly more expensive one but apparently top quality. They are going to silicon fill it, whatever that means, then rub it back smooth.

I'm def going to leave the lowest cut out black much like the US spec cars. Think that looks sweet and will be in keeping with the black skirts and black splitter.

I think I'm going to go for it. Seems like the best option all round, a good independant dealer via VW. Dealer is just confirming warranty but any probs and I'll be back at the dealer to complain. Plus i have the option of refusing the car if it is not right.

By the way, she arrives at the dealer for first peeks on the 15th Feb, and i pick her up at midnight on the 28th feb when the dealer is holding a release bash for 10-12 select customers! Sad but sweet...

Hmmm . . . the cynic in me would suggest they are initially trying to worm out of giving you any proper warranty on their own paintwork!   If I were you, I'd officially task (and pay) the VW main stealer to do it (thus keeping the VW manufacturers warranty), and getting them to sub-contract it out to this other bodyshop.  The main stealer may want a cut of the dosh, or it may cost you a few bob more, but IMHO, it would be worth it to (a) get a good job done, and (b) have the work kept inline with the original warranty!

With hindsight, that's exactly what I wish I had done!  It will look the muts nuts!

I think I returned your echo!!!!!!!!!  :embarassed:

WTF - get down there the day it rolls off the transporter, pitch your tent outside the stealer gates, and hassle them to prep, PDI and Register it ASAP        - OK, OK, OK - I know, you wanna wait for the 07 plate, but that wait sure will be agonising!

Sean

The way i see it, I'm paying VW to do it. If they sub contract that's their issue, it's VW I'll get a receipt from and VW I'll be shouting at if it goes wrong. If I wasn't such a pain to them I would potentially never know it was subbed out.

Don't worry i'll be there on the 15th!!

I wonder how much the lower rear section of the ED 30 would cost, and how it would compare price wise with having the normal silicon treated and all that.

Just a thought.

Hmmm - interesting, though you wont be able to fit rear mudflaps, as the profile is different!

Sean, the price quoted was £200 plus VAT, but that was the rear bumper only.

HOWEVER, my dealer asked the warranty question and was told there wouldn't be one. He then pursued my desire for as near a factory finish as possible, and for it to last a real long time.

Apparently the very confident body shop started getting cold feet and their answers became a bit paper thin.

Add to this my sudden thought that some gimp will spank the engine, after about 15 miles, all the way to the body shop and back.... and you come out with the decision to abort the plan.

Too much could, and probably will go wrong. The shadow blue is fairly dark which camouflages the black to some degree so i'll put up with it now. Might also contact a known bodyshop which has proven to be excellent in the past.

Might try to source a second had centre section of the rear bumper, get that done up. Saves being without the car and i've got the original should it peel or flake.
