**New Clocks - oil warning light coming on? HELP**
« on: 28 January 2007, 20:00 »
Just replaced my 8V clocks with some 16v clocks. Problem is, as soon as I pull away, my oil warning light comes on & starts to scream!! Stays on till the ignition is turned off. The car is a 20vt, so I'm guessing the oil warning light wouldn't have been connected with old clocks!! Why does it keep coming on??

HELP!!!!

Cheers

Dan

You may have damaged the circuit strip when changing the clocks over- easily done.  If so you will have the buzzer going constantly.  How warm was the strip when you changed the clocks over?  If cold they are quite brittle......

I don't think that is the case. At idle the car is fine. As soon as I start driving down the road, the light & buzzer is on before I have got to 2nd gear??

sounds like a dodgy connection - or you really do have low oil. check all the wiring is firmly attached with no breaks.

I have a feeling that after 1500RPM these clocks switched to the high pressure sensor which was on the side of the head.  If that sensor does not exist on the 20VT then that may be causing the problem as it is not getting the signal it should?

Rubjohnny is your man on this sort of thing!

I'm sure I've seen 160mph clocks in over 20vt's before though??

I don't care if the oil buzzer isn't conected? I'll buy an seperate gauge! I just want it to turn off.

It's not the level oil, it's sitting just under the max

On Club Gti I've been told Ineed to connect the oil pressure sender wire to earth, or even better plumb in the 16v senders so they work properly.

Anyone shed some light on this? What colour is the wire that needs earthing?

Of the top of my head i think its green and black. I think it origionates from the loom on the bulk head in the middle.

Cheers Stu, can anyone confirm 100% which wire before I butcher my loom LOL!

Also, should I cut the wire & earth both ends, or just one? I assume both, but thought I'd best check.

Thanks

Dan
