GTI Prices/Deals & Car Supermarkets, any Experience?
« on: 27 January 2007, 19:29 »
Ive been looking at buying my GTI from www.motorprovider.uk.com. I have spoken to them and can get a 56 pre-ref with 18" alloys for £17,895, red, black or blue.

I think thats a good price, I have been to dealership and the guy just sort of snubbed me when I mentioned the car supermarket price, it must be hard for them to compete and I see his point but at the end of the day I want to pay as little as possible for the car.

Without being nosey anyone care to share maybe the deal they had or if the price above can be possibly beaten?

Cheers guys,

SP

Wow - that is a good price! What's the exact spec? Bought mine from motorprovider - £19500 but was slightly specced up. Again depending on the spec it would be hard to beat 17,895 for a new GTI.

Only fault is lack of English books - apparently motorprovider are still waiting on them

I would have thought so - weird innit. As far as I can tell it has the proper UK spec equipment. I am just gonna ring VW customer services tomorrow and see if they will send me the bumph.

If a car is an import does it normally say this on the V5?

No the V5 does not show the car as an import - it's exactly the same as a car bought in the UK.

The manuals are Dutch - I guess because the PDI dealer (i.e. the dealer the cars are ordered by) are Dutch. You can buy UK manuals from a dealer, but they will charge you.

The only comment would be, just check the warranty as I think it starts when the car is delivered to the Euro dealer by the factory.  I.e. if you buy one that's been sat on an importers forecourt for a while it may not have the full 2 years warranty left.

I also bought mine from motorprovider last year.  I had it delivered the week after it was shipped. Would be nice to have English manuals but with a 3+K saving on the equivalent UK car I'm not too fussed.  The UK dealers weren't interested in giving any form of discount so I bought one with DSG & leather from motorprovider.  So far no problems at all and full UK spec.

Oh yeh.. not compaining about the price at all  but it would be nice to have an english book/service schedule to read through :nerd:

I read on this thread - http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=49387.msg387206#msg387206 that a guy wrote off to VW customer services with photcopies of V5, service schedule and sticker with ink stamp and they sent him stuff through (presumably with a new stamped service booklet?)

I guess I'm just too scared to goto the dealers to buy a book incase they look down at me for buying an import  I still also need to get the car registered with VW :/

Sorry for hijacking this thread anyway

Thanks for that TeddyKGB - I shall try VW cust. services re English manual to see if I get any joy

On another note, my car has 10 speakers (3 in each front door and 2 in each rear qtr). Do the other cars people have bought have the full 10 speakers (isn't UK spec 8 - not that I'm complaining)? I see that cars from motorpoint don't seem to have rears!?

I suppose the answer is sportypants - go buy one (check what warranty is left) from motorprovider.  If you're near Sheffield airport then go have a look at one.  Don't drive one though unless your bank a/c is full as they take switch  Even getting one delivered I didn't handover any money (apart from a small deposit) until the car was on my drive and I'd checked it all out which was very reassuring.  I have to say that even though I only dealt with motorprovider via the phone and email they were very efficient and friendly.  I was suspicious saving so much but there was nothing to worry about.  Given the poor service by the VW dealers when trying to buy one from them, there was no contest!

I bought a 3dr from motorprovider in Dec (leather, 18", armrest, diamond black) for just shy of £20k. Service was very good. I paid a deposit over the phone but wasn't sure on black or red which they were fine about and they didnt mind me going and having a look at the cars a week or so before I got it (I know its not much but some of these places aren't too keen you snooping about). I'm also still waiting for the English book - I've been chasing them about once a week with no luck so far.  Let me know how you get on with VW customer services.

Its probably worth noting that you will need to get VW UK to put the car on their system themselve - I took my V5 and German handbook into the local dealer and they did it with no problems - I even had a good chat with the service manager who thought buying an import was a sensible option (as long as you planned to keep it for more than a couple of years)
