Help....I have just fitted my good old trusty 6x9's into a new shelf (which sounded ok before) and now when I turn it up one of them sound's like it's catching it self (I believe this is referred to as clipping).. looking at them it's the wire that goes to the cone that's hitting the speaker cone it's self. Is there any way of stopping this or is it time to bin them and start new....I have tried everything to stop it like turning the amp down and the bass virtually off and it does stop but sound's crap!!!
Help before I spend yet more cash on my sterio....when she need's an exhaust this month!!!

right, its my opinion and some disagree but here goes....

Ditch the 6x9's. In fact, ditch the rear speakers all together. Use the amp to power a sub and some component speakers in the front and hey presto. The reason is the sound stage is brought to the front of the car, where you are, rather than be dragged back into the rear, where your not. Its the set up i have in mine and il not have it any other way.

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

yeah get a cheap sub dude, doesnt need to be much, you will notice the difference. get it as close to the back seats in the boot as you can. stick with mutant if you want but if you can afford to upgrade the amp and sub go for jbl all the way, they are outstanding little sub and amp packages for what they cost and are rated. my missis bro and one of my mates has the 1000w amp and 12''/10'' sub pack by them and it surprises me everytime i hear it.

I used to run just front mids and tweets with a sub, when its setup right its well worth it

but i did find when i wanted more volume, and added higher spec amps, and another 12" sub
i found that i needed rear speakers running at a lower level to balance the sound properly in the car. and give a more even sound all round the vehicle.
