Rattling from behind speedo
« on: 24 January 2007, 18:44 »
Driving to work yesterday I noticed a rattling/vibration that seemed to be coming from behind the speedo, the noise seemed to start at about 40 mph and got louder the faster I went. By the time I got to work I could no longer hear it and it was fine coming home, this morning it did the same again. I'm wondering if it could be the speedo drive but I'm not sure, does anyone have any ideas ? and how easy/hard is it to change the speedo cable. Any help or advice appreciated, thanks

How did you manage to get to it to fill it with grease as it seems a bit concealed (I know I'm being thick but I've never done a speedo cable before) and thanks for the advice

its a bit of a pig to get into when the clocks are in place, but if you remove them all, its not too bad, still burried a little in the dash

remove the stereo and fascia panels including all the switches. undo the 8 or so screws to do this.

undo the two screws holding the clocks in, then remove them.

cable will be hanging free now.

pack it with grease and reassemble the whole lot.

job done.

1 hours work tops!
