certificate of installation of immobiliser lost

alright people, I got a really good quote from privilege and they want me to send certificate of installation of the thatcham approved immmobiliser but i cant find it, do u know if there is anyway of getting hold of another one? ive got a 239ti cat2 touchkey, with an invoice but there is no car info on it so it wont do.

You will have to take it to a VSIB approved installer and get them to check it and re issue a certificate might not work out to be such a good quote after all.

Yeah i had to do this several years ago when i had my old Series one Escort RS turbo, i had to take it to a local security place and leave it with them. They then inspected the system that was on there, confirmed it was thatcham 2 and wrote me a certificate. Think it cost me about £25 but that was a few years ago.

I just posted on the Mk3 section, but then realised there was a whole insurance section too!

Just bought a 1997 Golf GTI and having trouble with the immobiliser certificate too. My insurance company won`t accept what I`ve got. Heres what I posted earlier:

"My boyfriend is on holiday, and I`m left trying to sort out the insurance! Arggh! Has anyone else had trouble getting insurance? My insurance company (Direct Line) need proof the car has an immobiliser (the Clifford alarm doesn`t matter for insurance purposes), so we had printed out from our local VW garage the vehicle data sheet, which clearly states the car was fitted with an immobiliser. This wasn`t good enough for Direct Line.

So VW wrote me a letter saying the car is fitted with a standard VW factory fitted immobiliser. Still not good enough. Direct Line need the actual make and model of the immobiliser. VW say they can`t give this to me as it is just the standard VW immobiliser fitted when the car was built.

So I thought I would try another insurance company. Tried Tesco. They need make and model too!!! Argghhhh!

Any suggestions of how else, apart from installing a whole new immobiliser, and therefore having two fitted, I can get insured? At the moment its not insured against theft which is pretty annoying and worrying.....

Lasci     I think your insurance needs a thatcham immobiliser which the standard vw one isn't...... I have the standard vw one and a toad immobiliser (so I like most on here have 2 fitted!!)... A thatcham will cost around £125 fitted with a cert (or loads more for a fancy one)

Thanks boney bradley, I`m coming round to the fact that we might have to just pay for another immobiliser to be installed so we have a proper certificate....

Will try calling the head vw office tomorrow just incase they know more than my local vw garage, but if that fails its either install a new immobiliser or get different insurance, I found a quote that didn`t need one, but it was twice the price of the current one!

my insurance without a thatcham was quoted at £900!!!! and i am paying under £300 (thanks to martinb at hic) with one....that £125 look's a bargain

Is there anything special about the Thatcham immobiliser or is it just one of many makes?
