As far as I am aware your bearings will be the same as mine - on a gti. They are within the rear brake disc mounting. I am told the pain in the arse bit is getting them out. I'll be handing mine to a trust mechanic to get them done but I don't think it is 'technically' very difficult.

It's urban right? That means it must be tougher, obviously.... ;-)

You need a press. Best bet is to get the hub off yourself and take it to a friendly mech to push the fold one out / new one in for little £Â£Ã‚£

You don't need a press to fit rear bearing shells, they can be drifted in.

True, but it's very easy to get wrong. For the sake of a tenner or whatever, it's not worth it imho

Its quite difficult to get wrong actually, well compared to pressing in a front bearing, which is easy to f**k up

I heard something about needing to change the abs ring's when swapping bearing's..is that right??? and i was also informed if the car need's rear disc's shortly it is worth swapping these while doing the bearing's as it will save changing twice..

The ABS ring is pressed onto the rear disc(as far as i can remember),so to swap the bearings you don't need to change them.
However it is probably easier in the long term to replace the discs/bearings/ABS rings at the same time.
