Replacing Shocks and Springs......
« on: 07 January 2007, 22:14 »

So, I think they need doing and buying OE parts seems to be just as expensive as budget lowering ones off ebay. Firstly, are these going to last more than 5 minutes?

Ans secondly, when changing these are there any rubbers/other bits which should be done at the same time? All help appreciated!

Cheap kit's cheap quality I say.......go for a decent quality set by a known brand..starting price is about £200 for shock's and spring's and I would also relpace the front strut top mount's when doing a full kit. i have replaced my shock's with boge turbo front's and sachs advantage rear with eibach spring's and this cost me £227 all in... do a really good ebay search and you can find some bargain's

I've got a full set of fk ak racing coilovers that I took off my VR6 they have only done 200 miles so they are still in mint condition you can but them for £250 plus p+p there just lying in my back living room so that will save you about £150.

Have a look at the Patec stuff from www.tmtuning.com

I have got the toptouring kit 40/40 drop, it is wicked value for your money, just tell tmt what drop (if you opt for non-coilover) you want....
ie 40/40  60/50 etc

Some mates have the models above (coilovers) and reckon they are wicked too  in road cars and trackcars.

Oh yeh, put new front top mounts and bearings in. The rear topmounts should be ok.
And fit all new bumpstops/dustboots too, the Bilstein stuff is compatible with Patec.

One more thing, if you want to fit an upper front strutbrace this is the best time to do that, and get a quaility wheel alignment done after the whole job asap.

i really rate the spax springs, if your going for a big drop (60mm ish) then they are IMO one of the best.

ive been through more brands of springs in my time than i care to remember.... ventura, g-max, spax, apex, have all graced my cars at 1 point or another!

anyways, hastd: i think it depends on what ammount u want to lower it, if its only 35 - 40mm, then id opt for apex or eibach, and if u want to go lower, then id go for the 60mm spax ssx springs, or vsx kit.

www.venommotorsport.com and places like www.europerformance.co.uk sell both....
