I've just done mine, only mine is on its 3rd having covered over 150K now. I did change the water pump, it was only £20 and they do advise you to change it if the vehicle has covered 100K or more.
I bought the whole kit: timing belt, tensioner, 2 rollers and and idle pulley. GSF sold the kit for £100. My kit is expensive as it is the AHF engine, I suspect yours will be cheaper.

I'd use a VW belt and tensioner, just for "safety's" sake. The water pump you can get away with a decent quality aftermarket like QH or similar.

well my local garage is going to change the cam belt tensioners etc and the waterpump and the steering belt  coz they do start to go aswellfor £120 ( i supply the [parts)

gsf have the ATD code kit for £59 plus vat
and the belt is about a fiver and the pump is £25

just out of curisoity do the mk4 tdi onlyhave 2 belts steering and cambelt or is there a auxilliray belt aswell?

i think the AC runs off the steering belt too.

thanks off to work... england battered in the 1st test harmison is a real worry.

2 belts. Cambelt and the auxillary belt (steering belt as you call it) that runs all the other components i.e PAS pump, alternator, air con.

For some reason the kit for the AHF engine is much more expensive than all the others.
