Derestricting the Airbox
« on: 13 November 2006, 13:48 »
Guys/Gals,

Am i right in assuming that a P reg 8v will have a Digifant engine?

I drilled out the airbox (wingside) last week and now thinking of popping in a Jetex Panel filter - they're quite cheap on fleabay.  Anybody using the Jetex Panel filter in their car, is it any good?

I read somewhere that on the Digi engines you need to remove a baffle from the airbox, does this also apply to the MK3?

How much should i pay for a panel filter, and do the Jetex ones need re-oiling like the K&N?

cheers

if you look in the bottom half od the airbox, you may see a 'horn' type thing in there at the frontr, if so it should pop out with a bit of persuasion.  But since you've already driolled the airbox you probably wont see a great deal of improvement.  The only thing that happened when I took mine out is I got a nice induction roar when I floor it

As for panel filters, they are the way forward and I'd assume you have to clean & oil the jetex just like you would a K&N :)

as per my other post, there was a long plastic tube coming in from the air entry of the bottom half of the box...it wouldn't budge so ended up breaking it out...there is certainly a better noise coming from the box now and the Jetex Filter has improved the throttle response so good job all in all..

There are 4 lugs(2 at the top and 2 at the bottom)that need pushing in where the tube enters the airbox. The tube will then pull out with a little persuasion.
