Amp wiring kit
« on: 07 November 2006, 23:53 »
:sad:I've got:-
2x 2000 watt 4 ch amp, 1x 1300 watt 2 ch amp. I've got a 4 gauge amp wiring kit with a 150 amp fuse.

Would this be sufficient if I upgrade the fuse to drive these amp's. What size fuse would I need? Or do I need a larger kit? I've seen my kit on ebay, and apparently it can handle 5000 watts. Have worked out that the three amps, make a combined WRMS of 1750.

What makes are the amps mate? There are many branded amps that boast 2000 watts etc but in reality the are nowhere near that wattage. Always best to check the true RMS figuers. 4 gauge cable will be fine. Running the amps is all good with the 4 gauge but if your running a few subs of them then the power drain will be much higher than lets say a powerfull set of comps. A 150w fuse  Try a 40w fuse as you really dont want to melt the 4 gauge  If the fuse blows then you know its not high enough, always better to be safe than sorry and have a fuse blow rather than a cable melting and catching fire. I have run 2x Rockford Punch 200's in the past with 4 gauge, 40w fuse runnig 2x12 MTX subs and a set of 8" comps and never had any trouble

As the man above says, your amps are unlikely to be dispalying their true RMS wattage - divide by 10 and you might be getting close!

If your figure of 1750wrms is correct, that's a current of 145 Amps!!  Your best bet is to check the fuse ratings on the amps themselves, add them together, amd see if you get 145 - if you do, then good luck!!

Let us know the make of your amps, and their fuse ratings.

Amp's are:-
Renegade 2000 4ch (will run 4/3/2 ch) - 100 amp fuse
Renegade 1300 2ch - unknown fuse rating (finding out tomorrow)

Read on car audio website, RMS should be approx 1/3 of max power. So worked out like this.

2000 / 3 = 666
1300 / 3 = 433
666 + 666 + 433 = 1765 RMS

Wanted to run the 4ch in 2ch mode to run Audiobahn ABC6003 3way comps (rated at 320RMS) one set in the front and one in the back, both in fibreglass pods. 2ch amp run in bridged mode to run Kicker 02S10L52 10" 900W Square sub (450W RMS).
