Best way to remove a bit of tinworm and repaint. ????

Hi,

My car is sat in it's garage over the winter for a few things doing first on my list is the rust before it spreads/gets worse.
I have 3 patches they are ugly and driving me up the wall!

1, Around the beesting on the roof is starting to rust some numpty can't have done it properly abt 50p in size:(
2, The top n/s of the screen seal has speckles of rust also a bit under the screen seal.
3, There is a patch on the front of the rear arch where it joins the sill about 10p sized bubble.

I am pretty handy with chopping,  filling sanding and alright at aerosol painting thing is the last two times I went to patch up a couple of bits, I got carried away and ended up with a bare metal nut and bolt rebuild of 2 minis which I swore never to do again, hence why I've left it so far!

So whats the best way of doing the above without ending up with a roof to fill and paint?
Do the wire wheel  brushes work at removing old paint and rust as last time it was a da sander and an angle grinder no way I'm going near my golf with those two tools!

If the car is a nice one... I woud look at getting the job done properly, shot blast the rust, or cut out the rot and weld in new, save the roof first, thats the most difficult to save once the dreaded rot has gone too far! attacking with an angle grinder takes out too much balls from the steel, shot blasting is the way to go, it removes only the rust.. wire wheel brushes only touch the surface rust, they will NOT remove rust that has penetrated the surface of the metal, they only polish it!

I think me and a sandblaster are a bad idea I'll end up with either a sieve or a bare metal rebuild again! and if it goes into a bodyshop it'll come out fully resprayed and my kitchen will still need doing lol!

Dump the kitchen mate! All my mates that have had kitchens done over the last few years are now divorced! they now dearly wish that they'd blown the dosh on there motors

I would seriously like to know the best way to get rid/stop rot.  I don't have the option of replacing the panels where I have mine and would like to get it stripped back and treated.  What are peoples remedies for rust?

It goes without saying that the best way to get rid of rust is to cut it out of the panel and I allways try and cut out a bit more than I need to just to be sure I've got it all. If cutting big chunks out of your car isn't an option or you just don't want to go that far then the only other thing I do is use my dremel to grind every bit of rust out and with panels being so thin it usually ends up making a hole, if I can I allways try to get to the other side of the panel so I can treat both sides and reduce the chances of leaving any rust behind. Once all the rusted metal is out I cover the area with a good rust treatment (both sides of the panel if possible), then I leave it for a while checking it every now and then to make sure its staying rust free. If I've just had to grind off surface rust its just a case of filling that area to get the panel smooth and flat again, if getting rid of the rust left a hole I would get it welded up or you could either fiber glass or fill it.
Once the repair is complete I allways try and stonechip and then waxoil the inside of the panel otherwise the repair lasts a few months and then needs doing again. The bottom line is this the best and some would say only way to permanently get rid of rust is to replace that area with new metal but I'm well aware that its not allways possible or practical so its a case of doing the best you can with what you have

Thanks for that.  What I am  looking at takling are these bits in particular (see pics below), including the bit above the bumper (in the first pic).

Not too bad in those places as you can get to the inside of the panel, take the bumper off and have a good dig with a screw driver to see how bad or not it is. Then get the grinder out and let the sparks fly

What would you recommend to treat rust.  I used to use Genolite a fair few years ago.
