GTI V R32 Fuel economy
« on: 14 October 2006, 23:25 »
I think this is one for the doc.I currently have a GTI DSG and would like to buy an R32.Without sounding like too much of a minge bag i wonder what the 'real world' difference is on the fuel economy?I do a round trip of 50 miles every day and dont fancy massive fuel bills.Anyone able to offer some stats to help me out?Cheers in anticipation,Noj66.

Yep,doesn't ring true does it Hector.I average 25mpg in my GTI,with a worst of 17 and a best of 32 on a long trip to Scotland.Having said that,it's so much more fun than the GT TDI140 before it,which in itself was a good car.Still cant get an R32 out of my head though, every time i see one i'm green with envy!

17mpg Wow

I too had a GT Tdi 140, and moved directly to the R32. Was prepared for an increase in my fuel spend ..... But the cost of petrol has come down and the R32 returning, acording to the onboard computer and average of 28.9 (33 on motorway). so all in all not a huge difference .....

On average I get 28mpg about town but on motorway trips as much as  41mpg  but on average around 36mpg.

I personally think i would go for the r32 next time but i do not like the front bumper, a gti front and r32 back end would be perfect

One problem ive noticed is, the onboard computer doesnt really give you an indication of your mpg, it gives you "the current journeys mpg which is fine but doesnt give you the average for the fuel that youve burnt on other trips from the same tankfull. Ive had new peugeots prior to "seeing the light" with VW, and the trip computer gives you choice of , current , average, and doesnt reset to zero everytime you turn off the ignition in the gti!. i kinda think our gtis are burning more then we think....
