Rev counter and speedo drop - momentarily
« on: 27 September 2006, 04:08 »
Anyone had this? Driving along at a constant speed and for no apparent reason both the speedometer and rev counter needles drop down around 1/4 of the range and then pop back to normal. Its happened twice to me now, once about a month ago and the other around 4 months ago. Both times doing a constant 70 mph on clear motorway.

Not really too concerned just curious and hoping its not a sign of impending failure of 'something' :undecided:

could it be a lead that's partly exposed and disrupting the signal to the clocks?  :undecided:

maybe the speed sensor on the gearbox?  :undecided:

Get Vag com on it, if you are losing power aswell it sounds like a coolant temp sensor

Nope, no loss of power, purely an indication problem.

I'm hoping to get some time to put VAGCOM on it tomorrow. I need to check for a possible turbo problem whilst I'm at it:- http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=47660.0
