3DR GOLF - Drivers Side Door Sensor / Courtesy Light
« on: 10 September 2006, 22:09 »
When i open my drivers door.... the little red light on the doorcard doesnt come on... neither does the interior courtesy light....

Im thinking theres something wrong with the door sensor.... but where is this ??  On msot cars its usually a little switch that is pressed in when the door is shut... but i cant find it!!!

Any ideas ?

sounds like you've blown a fuse.  Do you have central locking / leccy windows? if they have stopped working its definiately a fuse.

edit - thinking about it it could also be a faulty lock module; does your light come on when you open the other door? if that's the case then you need a new lock module

The light comes on when i open the other door yes.  Lectric windows central locking all work fine.   I thought the switch would be built into the lock.... but i turnd the lock on the passengers side with a screwdriver so that the car thinks the door is shut.... the light was still on ?

isnt there a switch elsewhere or is it just in the lock itself?

the switch is built into the door lock module I'm afraid mate.

Not sure of cost but i think the module is around £100 alone

do you have problems locking the door? i.e does the door pin pop back up?

Everything works fine ! Just ....

1. the courtesy lights inside the car dont come on when door is opened

2. the red/white safety light on the doorcard doesnt come on

3. the buzzer doesnt sound when i leave the lights on and open the door

i'd say the module then mate.  what happens is that the solder within it breaks down and the connections are lost.

you can take it apart and re-solder them but I believe its a pig of a job.

it does indeed

door card is 3 phillip screws and 3 T20 torx bits and held in place by clips.  its not too difficult getting the card off you just got to make sure you don't pull too hard otherwise you'll all the wiring with it!

have a look at this guide

that tells you how to remove the dor card

this tells you how to remove the lock etc

and this one explains the problem in more detail
