GTI: 1336kg (1355 for DSG)
R32: 1550kg (1617 for DSG)

if your profile is true and you are 13 years old, then any arguments from you about how much of a drivers car the R32 is are null and void

dont be a stereotypical b@sterd, a 230 bhp front wheel drive car which weighs 1.5 tonnes isnt going to e as fast as a 197bhp front wheel drive car weighting 1.35 tonnes so the edition 30 is useless

I'm not buying an ED30 for speed or Top Trumps value, I'm buying cos we wanted a good new 3dr hatch that would be reliable, well built and nippy. I fancied the GTi for a while but thought the ED30 would be a better bet as hopefully it will hold its value well.

To me speed is not top of the list when paying 23k for a car, I race a Tomcat which guess what has 230bhp and would eat any R32, for a fraction of the cost approx 1/10th of the list price. If I prang it I buy another.

VW have blatently pitched this car directly in between the R32 and std GTi, but they will all sell and be good cars, its horses for courses.

The only thing that I can think about, with regards to the weight gain is that the Edition 30 comes with 18" wheels where the standard GTI comes with 17" wheels. But 18" wheels don't weigh that much more!!!!
The only other mechanical changes are to the turbo the cylinder head and a few other internal bits & bobs.

Anyone fancy getting onto VW customer services to see why its heavier?

Hold the post just found this:-------

Volkswagen DE website only shows that there is a 29kg difference between the GTI DSG and the Edition 30 DSG

Must be the wheels then............1376 kg for a Edition 30 (German Data)

what the f**k are VW playing at? It has come as a real shock to me that the Edition 30 weighs almost 200kg more than the GTI... WHY??!    Why is it that VW consistently make cars that they tout as performance cars but can't even get class beating performance from a special edition - I've no option but to order the bloody carbon kit... come on now, you didn't expect me to cancel the order did you?

it has a s3 turbo which is concidrably beter but hevier and the 5 door gti comes with 18"s as standerd everything else rides on 16"s

you want a faster gti, get a standerd one and chip it with the 4 grand or w.e you save by gettin the cheeper one
