Ollie, VW offered to chip my GTi and that maintains the warranty in full

Second hand value will only be higher than the GTi because it actually costs more. by the time they're 3 years old this will be minimal anyway.

Re your PPS, your not getting a GTI Edition 30 with recaros. The price differential is not so great for you because you are buying a lower spec car.

And personally, I reckon that given that the extra 30bhp stems from a different engine map alone, the actual cost is minimal.

Ollie you have some fair points regarding the value - maybe people will pay a bit more just for the badge but thats all it really is... as for the rear valence, fair enough, but what about the front spoiler which will look nasty after a couple of years?  No option of recaros?  I think thats unacceptable and am sure many will agree.   Also I think you've missed the point - compared to what VW could have done and compared to the competition even from within different companies within the VW Group, the Edition 30 doesn't look so good.  I may well keep my order for the Edition 30 - most likely in fact.  But this is exactly the problem - that VW know that there will always be suckers like me who love the Golf GTI and will pay that extra for a special edition, but it doesn't mean that they aren't taking the pi55 and basically cashing in.  Especially if that power hike is just an ECU re-map and nothing else....

Wantmygti - Just check out how much more value a 25th GTI holds over a normal car of the same age - its like night and day. Only 1500 25th jobbies were made as well so the 30th will be just as exclusive.

Where does it say its just a re-map? The new S3 has had a fair few internal mods so .........

I do agree that VW could have done more with the 30 - however it is all marketing and the 30th has to fit in its place - a CSL version would have been brill. What we have now in the VW corporate pecking order is GTI, GTI30, R32, S3. Now i wonder how close the 30 edition is to the S3 for power to weight.........

When i originally ordered my normal GTI i speced the leather recaros only to be told that Recaro were having problems with the leather and there would therefore be a delay in getting the car. The price of those things is astronomical and there is no way you could recoupe the cost come selling time.
I'm a petrolhead anyway - i'll take the extra factory horses any day over the YTS fitted jobbie from the local dealer!

I have looked into it and by Autotrader I reckon like for like cars are about £500 dearer for the Anni. Which I'm sure is far less than the extra the owners paid.

Also, the S3 is pushing over 260bhp and costs £26k. I'll bet my life that the £2k premium of the Edition 30 does not include any engine internal modifications at all. Plus there's no need to modify the internals if it'll happily run 250bhp as Morego have proved.

Anything to hinder the door bashers. Plus, it's my choice of options, not yours.

You seem to be confusing VW's failure to make a really unique GTi, with my ability to tailor my car as I want it.

I think you have a point with the marketing I've read the email the dealers received. It recommends that they place an add in the local press about the edition 30 to draw attention. And on the same page info about other models.
Why can't we have a GP, trophy, Cup,type R, spec C, Williams.....
Theres no doubt that it'll be a better car than the GTI but how good could it have been?
Anyone seen pics of MK VI?

Im with Ollieb7 on this one.  I was considering a Focus ST instead of the Golf but after driving I couldn't live with the rattles of a Focus and the ASBO image was a put off.  I drove the Golf GTI and loved it but 2 things put me off.  First is the styling which is pretty underwhelming from any angle but head on.  The 2nd was the power.  Standard is fine but knowing you can have more is appealing.  My worry was that with aftermarket tuners you have warranty and insurance issues.  9/10 times you'll be OK but you just never know.

So for me the anniversary ticks the boxes.   It looks more aggressive (OK we've not seen final pics for me the rear is a big improvement).  It has at least 30bhp more, and i'll bet in the real world this is matched to what Morego would do for £500.  You get 18's as standard and i'd have ticked that box anyway.  You get half leather which keeps the seat bolsters in good nick (full leather ages realy quick).

So when taken into account he Anniversary is only £500 more than standard with all the options into account.  For sure you'll get that back at resale.

Sounds good to me...........

This stinks!

I am not buying an aniversary 'coz I don't like the trim my own personal taste (I was P.O. when I could only have fabric in my CADDY)

I also sold my R32 to the dealer I bought it off whilst I was there, so as of today I don't have a Golf of my own

My new Range Rover is coming next week (well ahead of its Feb delivery date due to a cancled order ) so until then I will have to put up with my "terrorist mini"
