ok

the quote he gave me (which i didn't realise) was for clutch, gear linkage and clutch cable and engine mounts and labour. All in £460 so I gave him the go ahead. I know someone who's just spent £390 getting their clutch done (not the same guys) and that was a friend doing it on the cheap so I figured this was an okish price for everything. Then when thats done, I'm gonna spend a very long time looking for a good garage in Leeds who specialise in vw's and wont rip me off. Thanks for advice gibby. Might go back to Ladyroyd if I don't find any closer to home. Someone reccomended IVC on Globe Road in Leeds. They specialise in VW and Audi so might give them a go. Anyone heard of them?

My problem is I don't have one garage who I always use who can do everything. My other problem is I don't know when I'm being ripped off until its too late. I think these guys who are doing my engine are ok really, just didn't want to keep adding stuff to the cost as I said I was on a budget. They are sorting out the scratch and as for the horn, they said something about the fuse box not being secure, I need a new fuel relay? And something about a bad earth, but I can't really remember (my brain only holds so much information when it comes to cars, sorry! ) He said you just have to breathe on it and the fuel pump cuts out? or something? Doesn't make sense to me (as usual). So he's telling me whoever did the fuse box wants shooting! As far as I was aware, the fuse box was sorted. So I also need a good auto electrician!

oh its a never ending money pit and I don't know when to stop. Money will run out soon

Gem I really think you are being ripped off!

If these jokers do fit a new clutch insist on seeing an invoice or at the very least a delivery note for the parts and get it checked to see if they are the correct parts for your car!

Clutch & linkage should be about £200
Engine mounts no more than £100 assuming there are 3 and they do all of them.
Fix fuse box and a relay £30.

So they are way over!

Sounds to me as if they are charging you to repair the scratch plus a bit more!

Some of these places charge you for work they dont even carry out so when you pick the car up tell them you want to look at the parts they removed and dont accept any bullsh!t.

A clutch fitted and linkage realigned for £200, perhaps at a backstreet garage.

Engine mounts bought and replaced for £100?

Dreaming.

Like myself, Mr.Slick is from Surrey, and so appreciates how expensive things actually are in the real world
