sony mp40 head unit problems!!! grr!!!
« on: 26 August 2006, 14:05 »
hia all

well... heres whats happened

bought this head unit a while back for £40, was off a saxo driver so i instantly thought hmm

anyways, hacked up the wiring thingy, connected red and yellow to red and black to brown, lights up fine, connected 2 audio type wires to the 2 speakers

it was really quiet and at full volume it was crackly

so erm... bought another head unit for £5 off a boot sale rofl, and that one its very loud but erm broke, cds skip. the speakers and earth are fine as worked with ma tape player

took it into a radio shop today and the guy tested it... and it was very loud... lmfao

so what im thinking is rather than wiring it to the audio connectors i can splice some of the wires off the loom thing theres a big connector coming off it so i presume its for an amp or summat)

i know wierd and complicated lol, anyone got any ideas about this???

cheers

sam

Not got a golf yet! did have a 1.6 driver plan to have another project car soon ;)

Bit unsure what your trying to do.

Take it the unit is the sony CDX-MP40. Not sure what you mean by big connector thing coming off it. This is probably the ISO connector block. It connects the unit to the car harness (power and speakers). You need to go to halfraud's and buy a connecting harness to your car usually £10.

Has your car got a connecting block for the power and a separate one for the speakers? Or is it just wires sticking out. This makes a difference what wiring harness you will need. If there are no blocks and it is just wires then you need to get an ISO block that just has wires coming out of it. These need to be connected to the car's wires via chok block's (brass terminal block's), then the unit will connect straight to the car. If you have connector block's on the wires then you need a harness specifically for your model.

MAKE SURE you have the battery disconnected when doing this,or else you'll keep blowing fuses when putting the unit back into it's hole in the dash.
