have you connected the speakers to the wires to find out, or did you dive in with a volt meter?

Im sure the 2 live ones are (+) and the dead ones are(-) ???

Did you have the sterio on when u tested this? loose connections?

if not check the output from the head unit, you could get some bullet connectors and re wire steaight from the heaf unit with new wires  :)

volt meter! blah! a bulb and a speaker for me ;D

What was the question again? oh yes...

Best thing to do is rewire the whole system using decent speaker cable as the VW stuff ain't that good when you want clarity. It's only like 40p a metre so worth doing.

Its not as bad as what the above say :o poor chap. :-\

You need to find out if the stereo is working properly first, no point rewiring it all only to find the channel on the stereo is blown and you need a new one.

Best thing to do is pull the stereo out and check the wiring from there, a speaker will do but a volt meter better. If there is power/sound here then u will have to trace the wiring. At least if you do it this way you will limit the hastle.

Also I would not bother rewiring to be honest, unless you are planning to create an award wining system of course  ;D

WHEN YOU OPEN THE BLACK RUBBER UP ALL THAT IS THERE IS A BIG TERMINAL WITH ALL THE CONNECTORS ETC??..THERE IS NO ROOM FOR ANY NEW WIRING TO GO THROUGH THE DOOR??AS I WAS GOING TO DO UNTIL I FOUND THE SPLIT WIRE

BUT WHEN I DO UPGRADE HOW AN EARTH DO I GET ANY NEW WIRES THROUGH THERE , PUTTING THE WIRING IN ISNT THE PROBLEM IS THAT BLOODY WEIRD LOOM??

hmmm....
nothing that complicated on a mk2!
you could find out which ones on the clip relate the the speakers and just connect the wires to these, then run new wires to the headunti and connect them to the old wires as close to the ISO block as possible.

alternatively find a hole in the door, near the hinge, put a grommet in it, and run the wires thru that
 :)

YEAH I KNOW MY MK2 WAS EASY TO DO THIS TOO.. VW ARE A PAIN ..

MMM I DONT WANA BE UNCONNECTING ALL THOSE WIRES IN THE LOOM CAUSE KNOWING ME I WILL BLOW OR LOOSE SOMETHING ?.....I MADE AN ATTEMPT TO DRILL A HOLE TODAY FOR A NEW SPEAKER WIRE BUT THE METAL IS SOLID AND THERES NO ROOM ON THE LOOM AS THE CONNECTERS TAKE IT ALL UP ..ID HAVE TO RUN WIRES OUTSIDE THIS LOOM AND THAT MITE INTERFERE WITH THE DOOR OR CUT THE WIRES ?.

COS IM GONNA AMP THESE SPEAKERS SOON -ISH AND THIS PROBLEM IS GONNA ARISE , COS IF YOUR AMPING THEM YOU WANT THE BEST SPEAKER WIRE NOT VW 40 P POO STUFF

IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO HAS PUT NEW WIRING IN THERE MK3 OR KNOWS RE THIS ?

is trhere no blanking grommet any where on the door?
it may be you have to get rid of the connector thing by splicing the wires together then running the speaker wires thru there
dont know about mk3's really sorry
