I don't think the syncro 4wd system will take a lot of power through it as I had a similar idea for a project.

this is true, but if it does fail then ill just have to make some stronger parts... and at the end of the day i can allways revert to the standard front wheel drive,

but what engine!

Fair enough! Personally I'd go for a 1.8T or VR6, can't help much on the helpful what fits bit but this page should come in useful :)

sounds like a bit of a monster project if you're starting from scratch with a few 4wd bits.. i assume you know its not a straight forward bolt-on job to a normal mk2 shell ?

both

get yourself to a show and have a nosey underneath a synchro or a rallye to see how it all goes in.

as for the engine.. G60.. 1.8T .. 16vT .. VR6T .. all depends how mad you want to go.

ill try and do that... any near oxford???

I started off in the jap scene and i no there just reverting to naturaly aspirate motors again so i think i might stay non turbo.... but still try and get around 200 horsies!

what u think to a 2ltr golf 16v,,,, get cams, port and polish, bigger inlet, and then a nice liel 4 into 1???? maybe then lughten the fly wheel etc...

Your idea for a 2.0 16v will get you in the region of 200bhp take a little. You might benefit from Throttle Bodies better than the k-jet setup which kinda tops out at 200bhp. Along with this you will need a suitable 4wd gearbox as a normal 2 wheel drive one wont mate up to your 4wd setup.

Why not just buy a G60 Syncro?

well, or find one as a donor. 200bhp from a G60 is reasonably easy.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.
