The Contacts on the Switch on the Stalk could do with a clean or take them apart and replace them...

contacts has nothing to do with the MFA. there is a electrical plug/connector that comes off the MFA stalk. i assume you have connected it?
if not then take off the bottom of the steering column housing - 2 screws - and check its conntected correctly
if you connect it back to front then the slider switch on the stalk will move the MFA modes rather than the button!!

try pulling fuse 3 (on an 8v) for about 5 secs......need to take it right out. I did it on my completely fooked MFA and now all working great.

fuse 21 on a late spec MK2, fuse 3 on an early one
Hazard switch on dash = early, hazard on column = late.
