Boot Release
« on: 23 December 2003, 14:55 »
I have recently become a very proud owner of a MK4 1.8 GTI Turbo and was hoping that someone could tell me why i cannot find a boot release button!  I find it hard to believe that a car as lush as this does not have such a thing!  If there really is no such thing then is it possible to unlock the boot without inserting the key ie. by remote central locking - what am i doing wrong?  ???

hello there 'turbochick', not sure what your doing wrong, my mk4 gti dosnt have a release button only for the fuel flap, the remote locking set up should be as follows, press once(unlock) will un lock the drivers door only!, press (unlock) twice and the boot and passenger doors etc should all open!!, give that a go and see how you get on!! ive never had to use the key on mine!!! :D :D ::) welcome to the forum!!

I've heard that the alarm is meant to work in that way but my doesnt.  Is this only standard on later models?  Mines a 99 - V.  When I press the release button once it opens everything - is this wrong then?  :)

Cheers,
Steve

no i wouldnt say its 'wrong' its just the way its been set up!!, ive mentioned before about the vag-com system and if you have a laptop, the relevant leads and software you can alter these characterisitics of your car and many more!!!, all i kno wis on my car its one prees of (lock) to lock all, then one press(unlock)to unlock just the drivers door then twice (unlock) to unlock all!!, i think this is a security feature that has been activated as requested by original customer!!, (you dont want all doors open if your on your own in a dogey car park etc!)  :D :D :D

Thank you for your advice! I am sure that i've tried the double click thing before and it's not worked but i'll give it another go!

Are there any other girly GTI drivers out there or is this forum just a boy thing?

 :)

(which could be caused by washer pipe prob on rear wash unit within bootlid!!) if in check an earlier thread on alarm probs!! theres a 'how to guide' link on there for that washer prob!! i could be the solenoid has got wet???? just an idea!!

Didn't realise there was that many dif combo's, but no one's mentioned that if u lock the door wiv ur key and hold it to the right for two 2 secs all the windows shut aswell, AND on those hot days do the alarm, then put the key in unlock to the left for 2 secs again and all the windows come down 8) :P

Its all better now very shiny, but now the windows have gone again! and shocks are squeaking like mice!!aarrgghhh

Try manually locking or unlocking with the key then try the double click method with the fob as it might be out of sync with the fob :)
Worth a try :)
Welcome to the board by the way  ;D
