8v Digi cuts out on full lock
« on: 02 August 2006, 21:13 »
My 8 valve has the tendancy to cut out when on full lock, makes me look stupid when trying to park . Any ideas what is causing this?  :undecided:

Also whilst i am on the subject of steering, when its raining it is sometimes really stuff to turn the wheel, mainly left, feels like trying to turn the wheel when the engine is off.

thanks in advance

check you PAS fluid, PAS belt

adjust the idle slightly or give the inlet manifold a good cleanout. Worked for me

fluid level is fine as i have to carry a bottle of the stuff everywhere I go because it has a tendacy to relieve itself of all its fluids! but tbh the belt squeeks occasionally too now you mention it.

thanks

The reason the steering goes heavy when its raining is cos the PAS belt gets wet and slips, so its not driving the pump...

if it only does it when its raining its cos youre getting water on the belt.there should be a black plastic guard that bolts on to the inner wing cover which stops water getting on the belt.check the belt to make sure its not worn or loose.when i did my previouse engine change i never got round to putting the guard back what with all the problems and if rained it was a nightmare the steering would go al stiff and juddery when going round corners maily right hand corners i think cos the belt was taking a direct hit.as thwe wheel turns as youre turning right the water spray of the back of the tyre is fired up into the arch and down onto the belt.

This forum is great , I had exactly the symptons you mention whilst drving home last night in the rain (causing quite a scary moment during a fairly enthusiasticly taken corner) and was about to start a new thread about it when i read this one! Will investigate further when i stop friggin rainin......
