maybe fatboy jeremy clarkson was driving the mk4 ad the little bloke was driving the mk1.

Although i got a think through the post about MG cars.  It was selling the rovr 200 or 25 or MG ZVTGHJDJFKGFJ or whatever they were called , you know the stupid yellow things that all the boyos have now.  Anyway there selling point was that the bottom of the range 1.4 engined car was qicker to 60 than a 2.0 golf Gti mk4.  well i think that we would agrea that the 2.0 is slow by any means of the word GTi.  But golfs are not all about right foot everywhere.  lets all admit it, if we wanted an outright fast and good handling car we would have bought a lancer or an impreza.  All the cars on this site are worth at least ?8k up to 20k for the newer anni editions so we could all afford one.  but We all bought the golf for what it was and what it can do is a bonus.  I expect most would agrea that the golf is more of a luxury car as most of us have done the RS Turbo and Reno 5, pug 205 stuff years ago and now want the class that come with owning a VW Golf.  I will now go back to my comfy chair and sup on my pipe, and tell the kids stories of the good old days when you could drive on the roads without speed cameras and when you did'nt have to slam on the breaks every time you saw a van parked in a layby on the motorway or bridge. Ahhh the good old days.

i reckon the race was fixed, think about it, if a mk1 gti can beat a 1.8t, then it should be able to beat a vr6/g60/16v as well, all similar bhp.
in a straightline race? i don't think so.

as said its down to distance etc!!!< if you were racin a mk1 on the roads and were on full boost (and this wouldnt be a standing start) i dont think there would be a problem unless the mk1 was stripped out and modded!!!, hey my car is spose to be slow and ive done 1/4 mile draggin in it and beat rs turbos and astra gte's etc!!, i even had a race with some mk2's and i won!!!, ive done drag racin on me old motorbike and from what ive learnt if the cars arent that far apart ie power/wieght/etc, then its down to dirver reaction at the lights and gearshifts!!ho hoh oh :D

Even if it is over 1/5 of a mile, it don't add up really.
Mk1 gti is fast but not as fast as some of the others.

The mk1 Golf at 112bhp even with it being lighter can't really be a match for a 180bhp Golf, theres too much power difference.

Anyway heres a quote from message posted on the campaign register and this guy owns a mk1 and a mk4 180

"i've got both a campaign and a 1.8t anniversary, and i've got to say honestly that the mk4 will wipe the floor with the mk1. if he drives it right keeping it on the turbo and has all the electrical control engaged then the mk1 has no chance. apart from that it will be nice to watch... "

Oops its christmas day, what am I doing posting messages on here. Ummm hangovers!
