bloody top gear showing up mk4
« on: 22 December 2003, 01:30 »
I already hate Jeremy Clarkson.  Now i hate him with a passion.  Watched his biased top gear program tonight where they put a Mk1 Golf GTi against a a Mk4 Golf Gti, a 2 litre. a bloody 2 litre. and it had 17's on it.  Talk about unfair should have been a a turbo one i think cos that is a fairer comparison, sorry 2 litre boys not trying to piss you off but it was not fair.  the peugeot ones got a 205 gti 1.9 vs a 206 GTi 180 not a standard 136 one so they should have used an uprated gti.  i bnet it also had the heavy leather interior as well with all the options plus navigation, and the guy driving had the heated seats on and the rear window on and air con on full chat.  Jeremy clarkson is a t**t.  there thats better,  i can sleep now. night all!

It was actually a 180bhp 1.8t that it went up against, Drew from the Campaign register confirmed it as it was his campaign featured. Ho ho ho I love my MK1!!!!!

I can confirm the following...

1. My car (the mk1) is a 100% standard Mk1 1.8 with 112bhp. It weighs about 840kg.
2. The Mk4 was a 180PS 1.8T 6 speed
3. It was 1/5 of a mile not 1/4

In observation

1. The mk4 was really poor at starting, but better with the ASR turned off. The mk1 was almost three car lengths ahead at half distance
2. The mk4 was gaining very rapidly on the mk1 at the end of the 1/5 and the 1/4 was virtually identical (any further and the mk1 would have been way behind)
3. There was some 'serious' politics going on between the BBC and VW about the outcome, can't say more at the moment!

Not really a definitive test, I agree! Fun though.

Cheers,

Drew.
