Inpulse Sensor Replacement. HOW???
« on: 21 December 2003, 21:04 »
2.0 16v ABF

I am wanting to replace the inpulse sensor in a desperate effort to sort a running problem. It is located under the oil filter and front engine mount. I have removed the oil filter but am still unable to get to the sensor because of the engine mount. What is the easiest way to do this job????????

You have to take the engine mounting off, there is a small allen key holding it in. The last one I changed was for a intermitent non start and the sensor was about ?150  :o :o, fixed the fault tho ;D.

Ive managed to replace the sensor now. i did have to remove the engine mount. unfortunately it did not solve my problem. The car cuts out if you press the accelerator  quickly. you have to build the revs up really really slowly. when its running it has no power at all, probbably as fast as a citroen 2cv! Not happy >:(

To GolfVR6

No i didnt mean the knock sensor but now you mention it which one is the knock sensor? Is there 2 of them at either side of the front of the block with a 10 or 12 mill bolt holding them in?

I think there is a knock sensor by the oil filter housing, and probably one on the rear of the block.
I pressume the sensor you have replaced was the crank sensor(engine speed sensor).

it does not pick up when the accelerator is pressed, just cuts out. after a bit more testing i think its something to do with fuel pressure because i clamped the fuel return line then revved it and it seemed to be much better. I can hear the fuel pump and the volt meter shows its coming on when the ignition is turned. Do you know if there is more than one fuel pump? Remember its the mk3 engine in a mk2. Will the standard mk2 exterior pump be supplying enough pressure (it has so far)?

it may have a lift pump in the tank.
