Not sure about yours, but on a mk3 16v there is a second fuel pump that sits after the petrol tank.. apparently if this fails your car will hesitate.. if your main one goes your car simply wont start.

The main pump is about 100 quid, I may have to fit one myself to cure my stalling problem.

Ive now checked the fuel pressure. its all ok. a mechanic has checked everything else also and found no problems. We now know its overfueling and flooding itself. Maybee its the ecu?

The oxygen sensor is screwed into the exhaust , usually the downpipe. It senses oxygen content in the exhaust and sends signals to the ECU so the mixture is spot on.

Is the oxygen sensor the same as the lamda probe?

Yes, when it is up to temp it sends a volage to the engine ECU. The ECU uses this to adjust the fuel mixture.

SOLVED! The timing was out 6 teeth and the origional ecu had an idle fault. Why didnt the 1st mechanic realise that the timing was out. Its not brain surgery is it?
