16v Running Problems i.e No power at all!!!

My 2.0 16v ABF engine code is at the minute as fast as a 1.0 nissan micra and not as good a starter!
It starts 1st time if i dont press the accelerator. However as soon as i press the peddel the revs drop and if i dont come off the peddel it cuts out altogether and wont restart. If i slowly press the accelerator peddal and let the revs build up very very slowly it will get going and after a good old reving the bollocks off it then it will keep going. However when driving it has no power at all and you have to have your foot flat to the floor for a good second or to before coming off the clutch just to pull away. On the computer it reads that the hall sensor isnt giving a signal. I have changed the distributor twice at great expense with no results. I am now changing the impulse sensor (dont know if this will work). Can any of you great people out there shed some expertese on the matter.
Many thanks,
1 fed up v dub driver.

Sounds like it could be a fault with the coolant temp sensor or the air mass sensor. Also check the cam timing, do you have access to a scan tool?, will take a lot of guess work out of fault finding.

Could be a faulty cam position sender. Get a strobe gun on it to check the timing advances when you put the foot on the gas.

Changed the cam sensor with no joy. We now think its the ecu. The car is overfueling and flooding.

Unplug the air mass sensor and the coolant temp sensor then see if it is any better.

cant believe that the diagnostic hasnt picked the real cause up........ we had the same problem the the vr6 when we first brought it it was acting the same.........
until we book it at lakeside last year they said it was the hall sender which is above the coil pack and senses movement of the cam they replaced it and its all better....but it has started to drink fuel no more than 22mpg.......looks like it may go back to lakeside for another check if it keeps using fuel.......

Funny you should say that because the ecu fault reader does say that there is a problem with the hall sensor/sender. I was under the inpression that this sensor was inside the distributor. is this not the case? I have changed the distributor twice now.
