Blinkers off fella, std versus std the GTi6 is better, period.  Tried, tested and proved in the article above.  If you have more money than sense and want to spend thousands on a Golf VR6 tuning it to death then great, spend it and I (amongst others) will be  at you.

So back to the question at the start; if you want the fastest get the GTi6, if you want better longevity go for the Golf GTi.
