they probably have a 12v supply on that plug rather than a 240v one...

Hey guys, I really need help today, i gotta get it all sorted for this weekend and i only have tomorrow to get it done

I looked on maplins but cant seem to find what i need, is 240-12v gonna be powerful enuff to power my systems without it all cutting off?

i got 2 digital amps powering 2 x 800w subs in the back, plus the midrange drivers and tweeters, plus the ps2 plus the tv's etc etc

so all i would need to do is get a powerpack (would physical size matter?) and plug it into mains, and connect the " + " to the " + " on my car battery and the " - " to the " - " on my car battery and it should work?

PLz plz sum1 get back quick, its a matter of life and death! lol :embarassed:

I would Disconnect/Remove the battery and connect your wires to the battery clamps, to avoid running current into the battery and knackering it.

I suspect it would be cheaper to wire up a pile of car batteries in parrallel (NOT in series..)  and just use that, that's easiest.  Borrow 6 or so batteries from friends, and voilá!  6x battery life...
http://www.zbattery.com/seriesparallel-pf.html  For a battery-connection type guide...

Something like one of these things I guess would do what you want: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=30391&criteria=power%20supply&doy=10m8, but since Watts = Volts x Amps, at 13V that's going to crap out on you if you have everything cranked up, unless I've cocked my maths up somewhere there (Someone please tell me if I have, I'm not an electrical engineer)..

Hope this is not too late, and of some help...

Hmm.. On second thoughts, reading this:
http://www.chem.hawaii.edu/uham/bat.html
Suggests that a standard small car battery is rated at 45Amp/Hours over a 20hour period... (meaning it'll happily supply a bit over 2Amps of current for 20 hours)...  so if a standard battery will power your stuff for 3 or 4 hours I guess that linked rig might do...  :nerd:

..But I wouldn't be able to say for sure at all.  Far safer is the parrallel-wired battery approach I reckon! :undecided:  I wouldn't want you blowing yourself up based on what I say

You're better off with a separate battery in the boot to run your sounds. It needs to be a leisure battery though as designed for caravans/camper etc as these can handle a deep discharge unlike a normal car battery. You can get a 110AH leisure battery for about £40 from most car spares shops. This battery could supply 110amps for one hour. An ICE setup is never going to draw it's maximum power for long (only during certain peaks in the music etc) so as a really rough guess I reckon one of those batteries would run your system for a good four hours. It should really be hooked up to a split charger so it recharges when the engine is running.

I don't think a 240VAC - 12VDC supply is really gonna be suitable for running your sounds unless it is REALLY hefty. It would probably need to be capable of supplying over 100A in short bursts and this isn't the sort of thing you're gonna find cheaply in maplins.

Go with a leisure battery to get yourself out of this hole. Simply wire all your amps etc to it in the boot.

You got any pics of your dad's split ?

That's kinda what I was thinking... He could get a big bang and some cool smoke effects though
