Simple question -
i have a1990 8v with bust rev counter,
will pre 1990 clocks fit (same multi plug?)
or do i need 1990 onwards clocks? :)

yes yes yes

comon problem - a small component in the instrument cluster blows,
leaving the rev counter and MFA not working

apparently it can be fixed for 140 quid !!
stuff that, get a second hand set of clocks for ?50 (hopefully less)

I got a set of '88 16v clocks for ?10 from the scrapper.

i'm still wonderin if those 88 clocks are the same as in a 90 ?

i think the 88 ones have 2 plugs and the 90 ones have a single plug.

have a go and see if it fits?

If not then switch the rev counter over from the spare unit

i know someone that has swapped there rev counter over so their milage stays the same.

im not sure if you can put a motometer(twin plug) rev counter into a vdo(single plug) unit.

complete units are easily sourced for around ?50.

All post 90 Golf's are 24 pin single plug units, pre 90 double plugs will not fit.

I have a spare single plug unit showing 91,000. Let me know if you want it.

Both VDO & Motometer make the single plug ones btw.

Simply(!) swaping the rev counter over will not fix the MFA issue, the whole instrument panel needs to be replaced.
