Vento, just a Golf with a boot: is it an option?
« on: 23 June 2006, 13:47 »
What's people's thoughts on the Vento ? It's the successor to the Jetta, but is it any good.

I'm looking at getting a Mk3, but it might be easier finding a straight Vento than a decent Mk3 GTI.

There's a couple around on here, they can be made to look good.

Personally I prefer the Jetta, but hey what do I know!

  • If in doubt, pay someone else to do it!

the vento's can look very good. Like len i prefer the jetta but if it is a mk3 you were after and you see a good one then go for it. Theyre less common than the golf so may get some notice if you do which is always good!

thats the best mk3 ive seen..ever! its just clean and subtle..

I had a jetta TX years ago and loved it. if parking space wasn't an issue at work i'd have thought about a 2.0 vento gl insteade of a golf gti 8v. if/when i get a mk2 project on the go i want another jetta but a 1.8 this time.

I'm look at this one later:

93 K reg, 2.0 GL, full MOT, 6months TAX, £950

Looks better than this one which is N reg, 2.0 GL "Long" MOT, £795

And the top one has a towbar, so if it's been towing a caravan around you might want to see when the clutch has been replaced if ever...only saying as I believe towing can put a strain on the clutch and engine...might be wrong..it wouldn't be the 1st time

I quite like the vento, especially the front end, much better than a std MK3 Golf front anyway!
I'd be a bit dubious of the one with a towbar too, and if you do look at it check how its been mounted! Lift up the boot & side carpets, after I bought my GTI I discovered that someone had drilled 4 mounting bolts for the towbar, THROUGH THE BOOT FLOOR

Decided didn't like the look of the Vento. The Golf grill and lights look better, and I'd always be thinking, wish I'd got a Golf.

Towing is tough on clutches and engines cos you need lots of torque to be able to get the car moving when you've got a caravan hooked up. Once you're moving it's not too bad, it's just getting it started.
I thought towbars had to be attached to the chassis, not the body.

Anyway, avoided that one, and a Mk3 Golf 8v that was a bit of a mess.
