The chassis is the body! Monocoque (sp) construction the same for all modern cars!
Yes there are certain stronger points where things like towbars are supposed to be attached. Similar to jacking points.

Shame you decided against a Vento, that second one looked good, wouldnt have taken much to sort the looks, alloys off ebay etc.

I'm sure that I read that the handling on the Vento is more neutral than the Golf as its got that extra bit hanging out the back end to balance things up.  AFAIK, the 2.0 GL has the same engine and gearbox as the 8v Golf GTi and the VR6 speaks for itself.

Decided didn't like the look of the Vento. The Golf grill and lights look better, and I'd always be thinking, wish I'd got a Golf.

Towing is tough on clutches and engines cos you need lots of torque to be able to get the car moving when you've got a caravan hooked up. Once you're moving it's not too bad, it's just getting it started.
I thought towbars had to be attached to the chassis, not the body.

Anyway, avoided that one, and a Mk3 Golf 8v that was a bit of a mess.

T'is really simple to fit the golf lights and grill to a Vento, all you need is the lamps and grill.
I even managed to get a Golf bonnet off Eb@y for £16 that was the right colour as well. But you can always fit a Vento grill spoiler to cover up the gap if you don't want the expense of a bonnet .
