The site seems ok, but there are a few know alls that definately talk out of their arse.
Some geezer said he could get my engine and gearbox out, separate it, change clutch, reassemble, and have the car back on the road in 1.5 hours, all on his own. Some people really do live in the clouds

This is exactly what i did sat Morning. On a smaller 8 valve engine but essensially the same task. There were two of us in a brandnew (2 month old building) Audi workshop, this place is hi-tech, full snap on set up, ramps that raise out the white tiled floor, computers everywhere. The guy assiting me works their, he's been a VAG mechanic for 7 years. With the both of us at and relatively no problems, and all the expensive kit we had to help us it took best part of 4 hours to do properly, cleaning and greasing components as we went! Fair enough we weren't rushing, could proberbly do it in about 3 hours at a push but i'd love to see the guy do it in an hour and a half from turning the engine off to turning it on again with the new clutch. Is harder on the VR6 and 16 valve anyway as it is hydralic as aposed to cable operated.

i prefer good old golfgti.co.uk!!! all friendly peeps who all wanna help each other with a good bit of banter along the way!!!!, the only bits i tend to have to look else where for is ukmk4's but the mk4 section on here is growing everyweek!!!!!

Its easier on a 8v not because its a cable clutch, but because theres loads of room to get the box out. When i done my vr6 clutch with my mate it took all day, but we did only have 2 trolley jacks and a set of axle stands, and it was outside my house. I guess if you got a good workshop with all the equipment 4-5 hours sounds about right. Book time for a vr6 clutch is 5 hours. I NEVER hurry a job as thats when things get cocked up. This is why so many garages don't get things right as they work to book times, not getting everything done properly and thoroughly.

man changing a clutch on a 8v gti mk2 aint all that easy. i changed the gearbox on mine on my drive and it took about 3 hours to do split over 2 days. in a workshop yeah fine probably could do it faster but deffo not an hour and a half. my mate who helped me is also vw mechanic for local dealer and he said he couldnt do it much faster even if he had been at work as they get 5 hours or something for gearbox change.

on my nova with a 6speed g/box and turbo motor, some muppet (as in me) had forgotton to apply correct tourque to flywheel bolts and they became loose while running it in. we had the box off and back on tightening the bolts up within about 2 hours and that was 5 of us absolutely flying at the job.

clubgti is ok, but as someone says they dont seam to reply unless they know you and it seems technical problems dont get answered either. on here miles more of a laff and useful aswell. almost as good as migweb the vauxhall site, just not as many members on here
