Wheel bearing
« on: 02 June 2006, 08:51 »
Found a bit of play in wheel bearing. Trying to find right tool to get it removed - noticed most stores sell Hub puller (is this right tool?) when mostly is suitable for 4 studs when mine is 5 studs.

So if you got one and where did you get your's from?

both front and back wheel bearings will tap out with a hammer and a socket the same size as the bearing..... :afro:

Er no they won't. Rear bearings will come out with the above method, however front bearings are a pressed fit.

Front and back bearings are totally different.
The rears are tapered, and so are adjustable, hence the shells are not that tight a fit, and so can easily be tapped in or out.
The fronts are a double roller bearing type, and are a press fit. I don't dispute that they can be removed with a hammer and socket, but not 'tapped' out, hit bloody hard more likely. This method is not recommended for fitting a new bearing as damage is very likely to occur to the new bearing.
