16 valve gearbox to an 8 valve?
« on: 23 May 2006, 19:56 »
ok so i have been searching for quite a whiel and cannot find anything which suggests replacing this on an 8 valve. My mate has a good 16 valve box from a d- reg valver, i was wondering whether to use his clutch and box on my 8 valve as my box is goosed? any ideas whether it is worth it? surely i would get better cruising fuel economy in fifth? as it would rev lower? cheers?
i must buy a new car!

the 8v box is better cruising box. Nothing to say it cannot be done, but you will not gain anything from it.

It will fit fine, all you need is a 16v clutch kit and possibly a 16v flywheel although I'm 90% sure they are the same.
The only difference if its a 2y box is 5th gear is slightly shorter so you have higher revs when motorway cruising, and nthe input shaft is larger (which is why you need a 16v clutch kit)
