Chips
« on: 21 May 2006, 19:51 »
hello.
I have had my Golf just under a week now and loving it (mk3 2.l R reg.)
I am going to tweak it up a tad but not so its obvious .
There are some chips on ebay (blitzchips) are they any good? easy to fit? worth the money?
Also Slick 50 oil thingy worth putting in?
Change air filter?
Not knowing much about GTI's but wanting to learn.
Any advice would be very welcome.
Cheers.

by all acounts cheap chips are sh!te. a proper super chip is about £300 and is good for about  8-10 bhp. the easiest and most common way to extract more power is a good cat back exhaust and  enclosed air filter , probably 5+ bhp. It all gets a bit expensive after that with cams and head work.

with a NA engine improving the breathing is the goal of extracting more power. a proper exhaust is needed. a good air filter with a cool air feed off it. harsher cams will improve the power band.

headwork is expensive, but it's the only way to get a serious power hike from a NA engine. of course a proper remap is always needed to get the most from all the mods.
