depends on how fuzzy the particular fuzz are being.
IF they do stop you chances are you'll just get told to 'sort it' ie. get a legal one back on and maybe get a smelly producer. But ive heard they dont agree with all the new bigbrother cameras so they might be a bit harsher. I dont think its an endorsable offence though (no points only a fine).

TBH i think do it, loadsa people do and same with the mini crowd running black/silver plates.

Might pay to keep your GB-style originals in the boot, so if you do get pulled over you can just claim ignorance and change back to the originals infront of the cops, you never know... might get you off with just a warning.

*No promises though.

hmmm just had a thought.... may take the old standard ones, hit them with a bassball bat, rub a bit of red paint on the plate and if the coppers do pull me over just say i just hit a bird up the road and the plate was hanging off, so thought i would change them for my show plates.

I've looked quite a bit into plates as i've got a black/silver one on the front  here's what i've found out:-

Vehicle construction & use guidelines state that plates should be yellow on the back white on the front for all cars after 1975 (or somewhere around then) & pre-1975 cars can use the black/silver plates.

however...

MOT guidelines only cover size & location of the plates & letter size - colour doesn't come into it (I've passed with my black/silver plate  :smug:)

but...

As far as the fuzz are concerned if your plate isn't legal you haven't got plates and they can do you for that  , if they try it you want a deffered test  this means they have to arrange a suitable time (within 2 weeks) to re-check the car (giving you time to ditch the plates )  although i've been pulled a few times (even by traffic) and they've never been an issue

:nerd: I stuck my black/silver plate over my "proper" plate with mirror pads - if it comes to it i'll pull my nice plate off leaving the boring one and the pigs can go f**k

Never had any different coloured plates but a friend of mine has some fancy font plates on his Fiesta.  Was pulled and given a producer and vehicle defect form with a week to sort it.  Simply changed em over within that time no problem!

Again, not my personal experience but that of a friend so don't quote me.

Just carry the originals in the boot. I actually have 4 Number plates in a box in the boot. I run my german style ones, have my UK plates, and my name showplates.

It's only 2 small, slim pieces of plastic. Not going to take up loads of room is it.

Oh and i have been running mine since about june last year and not been pulled once for them.

AFAIK - it can be a produced and a £60 note fine.
