Door Adjustment
« on: 06 December 2003, 09:43 »
The common prolem of door bottoms starting to rub on the slls.  How easy is it to replace hige pins/adjust doors.  I am afraid f wrecking more than I fix.  Haynes comic jst says " Put em back on, adjust them and Roberst's your mothers Bruvver".  Any better advice/books/websites? >:(

Quality!

I have the same problem too on my Cabby nearside door, and you are right about the Waynes (Sorry Haynes) book, useless.

put a wheel stud in the bottom bracket of the door and gently close it, this will lift the door upward by resetting the sag in the bracket

dont close it too hard or it will over correct it

if you over correct it then still the wheel stud in the top hinge and this will lower.

just take it slowly bit by bit, checking after each squeeze!

Gambit,
You da man!!!  Why wait 'til tomorrow, that took about 5mins.  Had an M10 bolt in the garage, found that worked a treat.  Door opens and shuts as smooth as silk now.

no pics sorry.

open your door wide, you will see two brackets/hinges holding the door onto the body

put(hold) the wheel stud in bottom bracket so that when you close the door over the wheel stud is trapped in the bracket, and gently tug the door. open the door remove the wheel stud then test to see how much it has lifted

repeat until u get it perfect

like this

/*\

/\ = door hinge
* = wheel stud
