You've read the Service schedule - fair enough. You should remind folks here that the figures you gave were for kilometers - NOT miles.
Lisa - said mileage ok - 100 kilometers = 62 miles therefore use 5/8 or multiply by 0.62 to give approx mileage.
Sharan diesel cambelt replaced at 60,000 km or before 40k miles. Petrol units are Checked (60,000 kilometers = 37,200 Miles)
I asked the technicians for their opinion on the turbo engines. If you check the wear of the cambelt at 40,000 or 60,000 miles, then the work and labour involved to check it, means that you replace it, it is more economical to replace once there and on the job, than to keep checking.
As I said before, if you acquire a turbo at 4 or 5 years a Golf mkIV , and you don't know the previous owner's driving style, why take the risk.
You said / and the book is miss translated here.
120,000 - the cambelt is changed - 4 cyl, 5 valve petrol engines only
That means at 75,000 miles. Also the german translation is very poor. It may have said in German 4 cyl by 5 valves per cylinder units (ie the 20 valve turbo). I don't know ?
I talked to actual VW workshop people and the technician who runs his own business doing: Porsche's, BMW's, Audi's, and TVR's.
If you don't have full VW service history for every singe thing done, then you can't fall back on what is written in the Service Manual, when something goes wrong, and you are out of Warranty !
I'd rather recommend with caution - That is all.
