it was from a M reg Driver. not a Gti. No MFA button on the stalks. I like the '90 spec MK2 stalks anyway. I think I got just about everything from the mk3 when I gutted it.

no I just found that. thanks for saying it slid on. It had me foxed trying to get it on there. back on now :)

dont think it should be too hard any way dizzie if you got the loom from the mk3!!, how does the mileage work on the mk3 its digital aint it?? dose it work off a counter or cable!!!, that could be a bit of a bind!! if it works off the counter/sensor type system youll need the sensor form the gear box, i think any way!, i had a yuk yuk astra sri many many years ago and banged a gte digi dash in, ha dno cable so i had to go back and get the thingyer/sensor form the gear box of the same car as would match with any other!, dunno if similar on vw?

you have to peal back the dashboard finishing near the windscreen and cut under that for a snugg fit.

basically yes. you have to cut the sides down a bit (cos it's too wide) and then trim it up where it meets the windscreen. once that's done and you can hold it in place it's time to attach the support beam. with that in you can practically bolt it in. there's the small task of linking up the heating tubes and drilling more holes in the bulkhead for it to come through. I really want to get the loom spliced together before I bolt/weld the supoprt beam in. at least everything's out of the way then so I can work easier.

Whilst collecting a wing from VW today I asked if there were any diagrams to aid me wiring up the mk3 clocks, but I need the VIN number to do that. Back to the scrappy then.

right. Found a wiring diagram on the net and spent the last hour working out what goes where. I think I've got it now. The miles must count off the speedo cos there's no separate wire for them. I don't think there is anyway. Most of them like the indicator, high-beam, etc lights are just power up and earth jobbies. I'll wire up a 12v soon to test this theory...

Now that I've got this far it's looking fairly easy. (famous last words)

The Vehicle speed sensor I need to register the speed... can I just take one off a mk3 in the scrappy?

I think you might have to buy one. If you can get one of a MK3 then its a brucy bonus.

Where would this sensor be located on the mk3? Gearbox?
