Whining noise - Any ideas???
« on: 30 April 2006, 22:34 »
When I got stuck in the tailback on the M40 on Friday, I noticed for the 1st time, a whining noise when I gently let the clutch up to move off (1-1.5k revs).

(It's a bit like a shot wheel bearing noise, but if it was that, then I'd feel a shake through the steering wheel, & I don't think it would only make the noise at those revs???).

I've been keeping an *ear* out for it ever since, & it appears to only happen when the car has been well warmed up.

Anybody have any ideas?  Cheers.

If it only happens when you press the clutch then yes, it will be the clutch release bearing.

If it is the release bearing then you will be able to hear it from startup. I.E> depress the clutch and it will go away. Release it and it will come back until the clutch engages.

Sounds more like it could just be one of the belts slightly slipping when load is applied or the clutch "riding" I.E> rubbing against each other and not catching.
