Yeah, but that was the beauty of 205GTis, so flimsy it was great fun to drive, but the build quality was just so crap, I had a cracked exhaust manifold on mine, and you try and find a replacement for it that isnt cracked...You can't!!
It was too twitchy in the wet tho, and I had it too early in my driving life, I have my mk2 GTI too early in my driving life, too, but it feels much stabler than the 205 ever did. (I never lost it in the 205, but came close many times)
IMHO, the mk2 is the second best looking golf, behind the mk1 and one of the best looking (and timeless) cars from the 80s.
I drove a 16v mk3 recently, and didnt enjoy it, it just didnt give the feedback or handling my mk2 has. The only mk4 I've driven was a 1.4 16v and thats no good either (although I'd kill for the dashboard from it to be in my mk2)
The lack of driving aids that mk2s (GTI) have make it such a great experience, and yes, there are better looking, faster cars out there, but I wouldn't swap it for any of them (although 200sx s13 would be tempting, RWD action..)
